About This Project

We are dedicated to transforming how young learners in Tasmania enjoy reading, to help every child have a great start to the joy of books and lifelong learning. By collecting books and dress-up gear for Children's Book Week events, we create an inclusive, vibrant environment where every child discovers the magic of literature and the joy of a compelling story.

Who We Are Supporting

In 2025, the southern Tasmania-based Book Week Partnership Project provided over 300 costumes and over 1,500 books to children, across 5 schools. See ABC's 2025 coverage

 

In 2026 the Project aims to reach even more children statewide, but can only do so with community support. Key activities for the children are:
 - The Costume Library, where children can access costumes that match books they already love

 - Pick-a-book Activity whereby every child is empowered to select and keep a book, just for them

Why this Matters

The Book Week Costume Parade is a positive and joyous experience for many children, powerfully linking books to fun and school community. But it is difficult for some families to find the costumes and books to support their child’s participation, leading to disengagement and contributing to low literacy and educational engagement.
